The waffle iron is a handy cooking appliance that's reportedly been around since the 14th century. It wasn't until the 19th century when Cornelius Swarthout patented the design, and now it's become a staple in kitchens everywhere. Typically waffles are served as a breakfast item, often doused in syrup and topped with a bit of butter. They can also serve as a tasty dessert, perhaps covered in chocolate and served with a bit of fresh fruit. The possibilities are endless - but that's also the case for the waffle iron!
It's a versatile appliance that can be used to cook or crisp a number of foods. The video below features a few waffle iron "hacks," and the outcomes do not disappoint. My personal favorite is the waffle pizza, which puts a spin on the traditionally sweet snack. They also experiment with cookie dough, cinnamon rolls, and donuts. Which was your personal favorite?
